Making Jesus known.

This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14 NASB

A Choice to Make

From the beginning, God gave humankind the ability to choose their object of worship. There are only two choices, God and self.  We either choose to worship the God who created us and live in the relationship for which we were designed, or we choose our own way and elevate our self to the position of god.

Twice - The Wrong Choice

Historically, the wrong choice has been made.

In Heaven - God created Lucifer (meaning “Shining One”) who was chief among the angels. He sought to be elevated above God, to be worshipped above God.  As a result, he (Satan) and his followers were cast out of Heaven to earth.

In the Garden - God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the garden. He gave them everything but permission to eat from one tree. Satan, sowed the seed of discord (with the same lie he had told himself, that they could be God's equal). They chose to disobey God and sin entered the world.

Now - It's Our Choice

Each of us has the same freedom of choice given to Adam and Eve. We either choose God (He knows best) or self (I know better than God). There is no third option to not decide, indecision is a decision for self.

A Spiritual War

From the beginning, God had a plan to restore our broken relationship through the sacrifice of Jesus. Because of Satan's dissatisfaction with God and his jealousy that God would redeem humankind, he and his minions are working day and night to spoil God’s plan.

It is important to understand that Satan has no plan, his only objective is to distract us from accepting God's plan.  Because any choice but the right one will accomplish his goal, he uses three primary approaches.

Agnosticism

This approach involves convincing you that the choice is just too difficult and you cannot be sure you will get it right, so you can just decide not to decide. This is a very hard choice to maintain because most everyone around you has made a choice and you end up looking like a fool.

Atheism

This approach offers a way around the decision by suggesting "if there is no God, then there is just no choice to make". So, if you don’t want to make the choice, just deny the existence of God.  This one is difficult to maintain because you have to imagine yourself to be smart enough to explain how everything exists apart from a creator.

The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God',”      Psalms 14:1 (NIV), Psalms 53:1 (NIV)

Since we were created for the purpose of relationship with our creator, both of those approaches leave a person with a void that is supposed to be filled by a relationship with God. The unfilled void leaves them unsatisfied. Those who choose “self” as “god”, soon find out that their god is too small to fill the void.

Religion

This one solves the problem because it recognizes our need for a “god” and offers a buffet of choices. This approach takes the personal pressure off because you're choosing a god someone else created.  There are an infinite number of religions available to "try" and you can always try another if that one doesn't meet your expectations.  There are options that tell you the path, options that let you choose your own path, and options that tell you that "every" path will lead you to "god".  Remember, Satan's objective is just to keep you distracted.

A little bit of good news associated with this approach is that most religions are based on some Biblical truth.  The seed of truth that you encounter might be used by the Holy Spirit to bring you to seek the True God and make the right decision.
